About Tales from Far Away

Tales from Far Away is a fantasy storytelling project that follows Borin, a young blond-bearded dwarf from the great fortress of the Rumbling Deeps, as he stumbles his way through an unexpected adventure far from home.

Meet Borin

Borin is 46 years old (young for a dwarf - they don't grow their third chin hair until 50), a final-year student at the Underpeak Academy of Practical Sciences, and officially classified as 'unremarkable' by his school reports. He's self-deprecating, polite when panicking, and curious in a society that values hitting rocks. His most suspicious talent? Reading. He's read every book in the Underpeak library - all eleven of them.

The Story So Far

What started with a catastrophic anvil toss at a tournament (trying to impress a princess, obviously) spiralled into a sentence of scrubbing tunnels, a fall down a garbage chute, the accidental activation of an ancient portal, and a fight with a wild boar armed only with a mop handle. Borin is now stranded in a distant land, far from everything he knows, trying to find his way home.

The Project

Every story is told first-person from Borin's perspective - witty, self-deprecating, and full of oddly specific comparisons. The tales are available in both English and German, with new chapters released regularly. All stories are free to read.
